Home Pages Updated!
12-30-98: My annual checking of home page links is done, with several pages deleted. I also finally got around to placing a trophy next to sites I feel are must visits.
Beta testers needed for Seven Kingdoms II
12-21: A beta signup for Seven Kindgoms II allows GameStats readers a chance to participate. Two contests are going on at GameStats, including 18 Rise of Rome Prizes and pair of Canopus Pure3dII LX video accelerator cards!
Finally, there is Gamers Christmas 98 webpage that includes pages with a holiday theme.
SC Availability page returns!!
12-19: Andy Graves, through the generosity of Agt, got his Stellar Crisis Availability page up and running. It checks for most games every couple minutes. A must if you want to find a game without manually going to each server. Thank you Andy, who is working on another program that checks your long term games.
Stellar Crisis now at new home
12-15: Stellar Crisis Room moved to GameStats.com, which has offered plenty of room for the room. The site offers a faster server and the ability to use programs, such as those written in perl.
The first program I added was a search feature, that allows you to search the site. Ever wonder if you were ever written up at the SC Room? Now you can check! Most of the site has been moved across, including the archive. The room remains in its same format for ease of use. Let me know what you think. I will maintain both sites, here and there, until I'm told I must reduce my space usage at televar, which could come at any time.
Information available for Almonaster
12-14: A permanent site has been installed for information on the Almonaster project, a new, different version of a SC-like game.
XB70 starts SC newsletter
12-11: XB70 started a S.C. newsletterĘtoday entitled Empire's Chronicle. The purpose is to allow players an arena in which they can recount battles won or lost, strategies used. People can read about other people's successes or failures, says XB70.
Finally, someone tells about v2.8.6
12-10: The latest version of Stellar Crisis, version 2.8.6 is available from Bryan Bush. Also at the page are several great administrative tools to keep the game running smoothly, like eliminating not-needed empires. There's been several recent requests for the code. I know of at least server that is up and running. The location remains secret (this isn't an invite server) until the code is working right, though over 40 people already have logged on.
SharePlay adds link - they have free net games
12-9: SharePlay.com added Stellar Crisis to their list of free games that can be played on the net last summer. Like a doof, I forgot to add a link to them. Consider it done.
HeLLSpawN publishes Clan X page
12-8: HeLLSpawN announced today the creation of Clan X, which may not be an official clan in Clan Wars, yet, but it certainly is a fun place to visit.
Christmas prose from BloodSon to i-m-ok
12-7: The following brilliant parody was sent to sc-talk. All SC players can appreciate the humor of this special tribute by BloodSon to the return of i-m-ok:
Twas the night before the sc tourney, and what I wanted was a gamer,
not a player was waiting, not even a lamer.
with hopes that a player would soon be there.
The admins were all nestled snug in their beds,
while visions of no rewinds danced in their heads.
When my screen flashed and danced, and the speakers did clatter,
I sat straight in my chair to see what was the matter.
But a super player (drinking a six-pack of beer).
His stats were impressive and his nuke ratio so rare,
he ended his turns and updated with a bit-pusher's flair.
More rapid than missiles his ships came,
as he cursed and muttered and called them by name.
On sci! On attack! On colony! On terraformer!
On cloaker! On doomer! On gater and sweeper!
I imagined his eyes glazed over, fingers nimble and lean,
from weekends and nights in front of a screen.
A pop of his systems, and his econ jumped way ahead,
my fate was sealed and I was filled with dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
nuking my systems, making me feel like a jerk.
Overbuilding and cloaking with the press of a key,
he zigged and he zagged moving perfectly.
The game was near finished, with "good game" he concluded,
just to be nice a smiley face was included.
Depressed and heartbroken I gave a snarl and a taunt,
"It's just what I asked for, but not what I want."
Welcome back i-m-ok.
