SC Updates for Jan. - April 2000

Lug installs newest version, v3.2.3
3-22-00: Andy Graves reports that Lugdunum has been running the latest version of SC, v3.2.3. Release notes and code are available at Andy's support site.

Alexia's releases system parser program
3-22-00: Alexia (Aleksandr Sidorenko ), a long-time player, told me several months ago about a system parser program he wrote that can notify you in big games (500-system types) of where to terraform. He also was working on something that would join separate maps of games into one map. That could come in handy in the Olympics. Program, in C++, works only on servers hosting v2.8.xx games. Let him know if you want him to finish the program.

Taking a LONG rest, cya
3-21-00: I've been 2-1, 3-1, and 4-1 at Lugdunum in the past few weeks. I've been laughed at, goaded and made fun of. Maybe I deserved some of it. But I no longer enjoy the game of SC. I will honor my obligation in the Olympics, where it seems the games are as close to being fair as you can make them. But for maintaining or improving the SC Room, I'm out of here for a long, long rest. (Yes, empire named Hate showed me the light. But there were many others earlier that were more rude than he). BYE.

The GAP RETURNS!!
3-2-00: Andy reports the very popular GAP (Game Available Program) is back. You can find out all of the games where players are playing, or separate out to just blitzes or dailies. The page updates every couple minutes. Thanks muchly to Andy.

I'm back - computer chip went bad
2-17-00: Sorry about no updates for so long, but my computer's logic chip went out. I had to travel to Spokane - 6 hours round trip - to turn in computer for repair and then to rescue it. I will soon be trying to get caught up on postings and such here. Thanks for your patience.

Olympic Trainer server continues
1-23-00: Andy of Lugdunum fame kept the database at the Olympic server on an Olympic Trainer server, where he's got an updated v3.0 code. The Olympic and its Trainer servers have been added to the server listing to make it easier for those using SC Room to find them. (Andy's idea ;) ).

Kia says it's all a hoax
1-22-00: Kia called Kirk Fidler's house to express her condolences at his dismiss, only to be greeted on the phone by Kirk. Seems someone pulled a big hoax on the SC world.

Lionhart dies in auto accident
1-21-00: LifeIncarnate wrote today that Lionhart (Kirk Fidler) died in a head-on vehicle accident. He was notified by an e-mail from Kirk's son. Perhaps someone can come up with a fitting v3.0 game that we could name in honor of Capt. Kirk/Lionhart. Maybe something with a twist on builders which Kirk liked. I'm sure Andy at Lug would be honored to host it.

Lugdunum remains safest server
1-12-00: Thanks to a mention by Phantasmorgias at Yahoo Club, code fix by Del, and server update by Andy, Lugdunum no longer has the tech selection problem.

Goose posts Cuckoo tips
1-9-00: Gooseberry recently shared a few tips for playing the Cuckoo Desert Blitz.

Top 10 scores for 1999
1-1-00: I've listed what I found to be the top 10 scores for 1999. Wonder who will be left standing after 2000? (Wish I had done this in the past, as servers come and go, and with them go the scores of the top players).

New Year opens with new game!!
1-1-00: Stellar Crisis may have lost a server or two last year, of which we don't know if any of them will return. But the new millenium opens with a new Stellar Crisis server with changed games, too. Dubbed Chamber Conflict, the design has been renewed and some code changed to fit with the needs of Roxen1.3rel2 and Pike 0.6, says the programmer. E.

In his words: "The game itself is as SC3.0.10 as it was developed from that and any rules haven't been changed because we want the game to be beginning to develop it's own course by the ideas of people who play it.

"Also I would like to invite any developers out there who might be interested in becoming a member of CC Coding Crew, the organization that develops it is Chamber.ee and we always look out for more developers to be hooked up with this project. This way we can make sure that CC will continue to develop and it won't die in our hands. Also this way we can make sure that the quality of the code is good.

"The source code of CC is not available right now, but it will be made public after the coding crew has been assembled and some parts of the program has been rewritten. The source will be free, of course, as SC should be. Also we are planning to get the CC servers up in USA for faster access from overseas.

E has an ICQ of 396430.
