SC Updates for Feb. - March 1998

Link page lists other free games
filler3-22: A free, online link page for multiplayer games now lists Stellar Crisis. I thought others might be interested in this straight forward page.

Almonaster goes to beta testing
filler3-21: Almonaster will go off the air Tuesday, March 24, for beta testing. SB is looking for experienced players willing to help him find the bugs that have made the game crash. Three players already have been selected. He needs four more to sign-up. He expects the first round of testing to be completed by March 29. Updates will be available on the sign-up page.

MKII is available to the public
filler3-21: Code for MKII is available to the public. Peter Bortas thought you ought to know.

Black Hole posts ICQ page
filler3-19: An ICQ page dedicated to SC was posted by Jimmy (aka Black Hole). If you want to keep in touch with other SC players, this could be the way.

SC Room named site of the day!
filler3-14: Setoff.com recently named SC Room as it's game site of the day. I think the room remains a top game site on alternating days for three weeks since Feb. 25. Pretty cool though.

Pssst! Agt's got a secret
filler3-11: OK, March 12 is Agt's 20th birthday, so let's make him feel happy a day early by visiting his secret page.

Regensburg adds MKII server
filler3-9: A new MKII game has been added at Regensburg.

Map 5: Agt found in a beginner's game!
filler3-8: Not Everyone Is A Beginner in newbie games. So my new empire found out, along with another newbie, GirlScout.

Did you notice? Clan wars start new season
filler3-7: Clan Wars recently started its next campaign with a new look to the main page. Warring empires will battle from Feb. 28 to May 30.

New URL for Dogs of War Clan
filler2-20: The Dogs of War clan page is up, with a new address.

Maypo nuke added to map section
filler2-15: Hey, I finally figured out how to save a large map. Wish I had this sooner so I could show Cheese Head why he should have taken my ally out offer. Oh well, the nuke of Mayponian at CyberNex will have to do.

New clan seeks to spill blood
filler2-9: The Spillers of Young Blood Clan recently was announced by leader der1. (Das ist goot?) They have posted a page and seek new members.

Votes are in for top players
filler2-9: Katuluu posted his SC Awards for the Winter of 97. BigB cleaned up. Though no vote tally was given, BigB was named Best Overall Player and Best Ally. He was third as most honorable. Maybe next time we can have a most dishonorable category, or worse lamer?. Visit the site. Katuluu wants to see his counter warp out.

MKII beta released for use
filler2-1: Peter Bortas reports that the source code for Stellar Crisis MKII was released to the public for use on servers. He said the code was not GPL'ed because he didn't want the code spread before it was free from bugs.

The following release note was sent by Bortas:
This is the complete Stellar Crisis Mk II source, however, one thing differs from the server running at Lysator; the Java chat was removed for copyright reasons.

Stellar Crisis Mk II was meant to be a rewrite of 2.8 from scratch so that it would run faster and cleaner. This didn't happen. The game was rewritten alright, but as time went by new features was added every week until it wasn't the clean source we would have wanted any more. Tracking down bugs has become increasingly difficult, and our free time to do it more limited.

This release is quite free from bugs in game. There is only one serious one left: Ships passing each other in battle. There are some other issues out of game, the database might be corrupted if the machine restarts often. This will not crash the database, but it might damage games in progress.

Note that this version of Stellar Crisis Mk II is NOT GPL. This is because we don't want the code spread in a multitude of versions before it's free from bugs.

Oh yes, we are still stuck with that name. I had decided for another one, but when I made a search for the name it turn up that there is an old Celestial Ceasars clone for Mac with my name. *gggngfghl*
