Clan Anti-Clan disbanded
3-31: Clan Anti-Clan was disbanded by Alasdair Sullivan after some deep thinking while stuck for eight hours on a ferry. He's working on a new Stellar Crisis page to be unveiled later this week.
Vividnet adds clan game
3-30: A new series entitled Team Lazy Grudge was started at VividNet by administrator BigB. The series is intended for arranged 2-on-2 clan games. BigB suggests those wanting to play the series can meet on irc.gamma.net to make arrangements.
Stellar Crisis Toolkit Released!
3-28: A prototype SC Toolkit area has been started by Delbert Hart. He's included a Toolkit FAQ to explain his project.
New Stellar Crisis League started
3-24: Tiamat, also known as Christopher Wendelboe, is advertising his new home page and a new Stellar Crisis League. He's also seeking e-mail from anyone willing to help him build his page and a Stellar Crisis server.
Stellar Crisis Mk II - Talk added
3-21: A new discussion area was formed specifically for beta SC MKII, the newest form of Stellar Crisis. Discussion and bug reports are encouraged. To subscribe send a message with the word "subscribe" in the subject field to: stellar-talk-request@crisis.net.
3-17: Twice Low Tech Mega Sweepstakes, where Per guessed 98 empires (actually 99 empires?) would join before the game closed. You, too, can join the fun by guessing how many empires will still be around March 31. Just jet on over to Alasdair Sullivan's contest.
3-17: Vividnet is down and up! BigB, SC administrator at Vividnet, said the server appeared to go down Saturday night. The server owner in California got the server back on-line early Monday.
3-13: Version 2.8 at Lysator may or may not return. I asked Peter Bortas about its return. He said, "Good question. I'm still contemplating if it's worth it."
I suspect this is a reflection of the data base going down several times, people using html to disable a game and the amount of bandwidth/memory the game hogs. Should the game return, I suspect a message similar to the one at MKII at Lysator would be posted. Something like the database could be altered or changed at any time.
If anyone wants Lysator v2.8 to return they should politely write to Peter Bortas.
CyberChat update: Just got the following on CyberChat's woes:
I need to inform you on CyberChat.... We were turned off the other
night due to an unfortunate mis-undertsanding with our provider, they happen to claim that in any circumstance they would have the right to modify or change even advertise on the content of my web pages....
I Think NOT.......... therefore i am currently establishing a new link for us...... even as we speak...... Damn no matter what it is i try to do...... something so simple as keeping a server up on-line has even become TrouBle..... we hope to be live again soon........ By the way i do have all the current data for SC................ i would think that you also do.......... i write in a day or two with further info......
Thanks
Scott
3-11: MKII goes public! I received notice at 5:16 p.m., PST, that the until now secret MKII version of Stellar Crisis was now public. Make a note that the URL differs from the previous Lysator site.
No word whether v2.8 will return.
3-10: Peter Bortas at Lysator wrote this morning: "One of the SCSIcables is glitching. One of the roots has promised to go down to the computer hall and fix this later today."
3-9: Ronald Kinion added more information about Lysator's sudden departure. Construction halted the server until March 10. When the server comes back, it's expected a more up-to-date database will be installed. An older, October database, was used after a crash a couple weeks ago. Administrators were aware the site would go down for construction. They said they would bring back the database when the site returned. Hope this is clear enough.
3-8: Sorry for delays in updates. I just got back from covering a 4-day state basketball tournament. Got to pay the rent some how.
Both Lysator's v2.8 and MKII (the new game) have not been working for several days
Talk on sc-admin indicated that Lysator would host MKII whenever most bugs were worked out. However, there was one missive in the last week which indicated an effort to re-load a data base that was newer than last October. An October data base was used after the most recent loss of the data base at Lysator for v2.8.
If history is any indication, Lysator should be up and running by late Sunday or early Monday. That's when the 24-hour update games start their clocks again. So I suspect we should all be patient and run over to another server (Regensburg?) for a game.
(Ronald Kinion says he's talked to Lysator folk. They are working on the data base problem. He says the server should be back March 10. Another message indicated Lysator's data base had crashed, again!)
A Clan Anti-Clan Page has been posted for those annoyed with clan-related messages filling the airwaves during a game of SC.
Tondohar writes that his page, Stellar Crisis Magic Kingdom, has been updated and expanded. He promises to keep it updated and limit the amount of French he uses. The Clan King K.A.N. page remains the same.
Vipers/Cobra appears to be someone using a nuke baby/double empire. Long access times give away the ploy. The empires have appeared twice so far, according to reports from experienced players who have nuked them at will.
