SC Updates for May, 1999

Almonaster returns
5-31-99: Max Attar Feingold reports three addresses (all to the same place) for the Almonaster game. The database was wiped clean, including all empires and games. A debug program is running that should make it easier to fix problems. Almonaster URLs:

Jermaine posts his home page
5-31-99: Jermaine's Home Page was announced yesterday. There is a beginner's guide when you log on. Have fun!

Insomnia closes down
5-30-99: Agt the Walker announced today that he was shutting down the Insomnia server since he was moving off campus. "I hope you enjoyed it," said Agt. As a historical note, he ran the server on P166+ with 96 Mb EDO, 4.3 Go HD, no screen/keyboard, no floppy/cdrom drive; Debian GNU/Linux 2.0 to pre2.2, running late 2.1.x kernels then 2.2.1.

New URL for Regensburg
5-26-99: Wolfgang Röckelein informed me today that the Regensburg Server has a new URL: http://132.199.121.27:8888/ Please make note of it.

Marq learns Pop Trick Defense
5-26-99: In a classic example of the Pop Trick Defense, I've posted a map involving the empire named Marq.

Almonaster is down a couple days
5-25-99: The Almonaster server will be down a couple days while some bugs are worked out. Max said he would notify everyone on sc-talk when the server was back up.

Hey, WebTV types, here is something on irc
5-22-99: BigB found a page that gets WebTV users connected to IRC (Internet Relay Chat). Many players use IRC to stay in touch with players or arrange games.

Tool is back up
5-21-99: The Tool Server was back on line at about 7 p.m. Pacific Time.

Tool down; should it come back?
5-21-99: Bryan C. Bush, administrator at Tool, says the server has been down for nearly a week due to a hard drive failure. If you are interested in having the server return, you best let him know.

Almonaster server made public
5-18-99: Max Attar Feingold announced that he's created a public server called Falcon for those wanting to play Almonaster, the newest spinoff of Stellar Crisis. The game includes a lot of new ideas all the way down to how it was coded. Max strongly suggests reading his FAQ prior to playing. If you encounter bugs, and there surely will be some with a new game, let Max know WITH Almonaster in the subject line.
The server is a Pentium 263 with 128MB of RAM running Windows NT. There could be some lag in response. Since the software is in development, the database could be changed or erased at any time. So beware before joining a lot of games. As Max says, "The server is provided with no guarantees and no warranty."
Those playing must have a browser that supports forms (that's 99 44/100 percent of today's browsers).

Skai's cloaker site moves
5-18-99: Skai announced that his entertaining cloaker site has moved to http://underworld.fortunecity.com/bulletproof/338/cloakers.htm. Please make note of the new URL.

Lugdunum, GAP move
5-17-99: About 24 hours ago, Andy Graves notified me that Jerome's French University disconnected the whole building where the machine running Lugdunum and Game Availability Program (GAP) were housed. Though the service was to be down for only two days, Andy decided this would be a good time to switch to a server in Britain. The new connection to Lugdunum Stellar Crisis v3.01.5 also holds links to a FAQ and the GAP. Because of problems, the data base installed came from midnight Saturday (GMT +2). Andy apologized for any inconvience.

SC Room loses connection
5-17-99: An unannounced change in my e-mail and net connection address made it impossible to post changes to SC Room since May 12. The programming guru at GS was away to the E3 convention in Los Angeles until this morning. He quickly fixed the problem. I apologize for the problem, which was completely out of my control.

Almonaster project seeks beta testers
5-14-99: Tim Rowles is seeking beta testers for the Almonaster project, a turn-based, multi-player war game similar to Stellar Crisis. It runs on any forms-capable browser. You can learn more about the game at the Almonaster FAQ. The test server will be available midnight to 6 p.m. Eastern Standard time during the week. There will be bugs. Beta tester slots will be limited. Almonaster is brought to you primarily by the efforts of Max Attar Feingold, chief architect and developer.

Black Sabbath posts maps
5-12-99: Black Sabbath and his alter egos have gotten together and posted some game maps.

Crypt holds game tips
5-11-99: The Dead Generals' Crypt now holds 25 game tips given randomly when you visit. I wasn't sure if I ever announced it here on the main page. I can always use more tips, too. Credit will be given to any that are used.

Another pop trick page posted
5-5-99: Orion Empire (aka Scott) announced his SC Advanced Pop Trick FAQ, which may well be the ultimate pop trick explanation page ever conceived for Stellar Crisis.

OK, jargon page is now posted
5-1-99: Thanks to Gooseberry, Charles Dauphin and Corey Walker for initial submissions to the Stellar Crisis Jargon page. There used to be one of these pages, but the site hosting it has been taken down. I am still looking for more submissions. Credit will be given to those who submit jargon not yet posted.
