PressEnter will return
12-29-00: PressEnter, the nice server with only two possible games to play, will return some time next week. It went down around Dec. 20. Admin says SC was running on a machine that was needed for an emergency. Nothing has been lost, all files are in tact.
Now if only we had a nice copy of v2.8 without the cheats to give them.
Santa is back by request
12-26-00: OK, you caught me. I forgot to post the link to the flying Santa. I normally post it prior to the day after Christmas.
Almonaster mailing list started
12-25-00: Nathan at blank.org will be setting up a mailing list for Almonaster-related discussion. The list will be similar to the SC-talk mailing list used the last four-plus years for discussion of Stellar Crisis. Max Attar Feingold plans to use the Almonaster listing for announcements. Though he expects low traffic, let's surprise him and have everyone interested in the game format sign-up. Just email Max and he'll sign you up!
In other Almonaster news, I've updated, again, the TWO servers for Almonaster games. Max reports Falcon is the stable server, Prometheus is a beta server. The latest version running on Prometheus, 619 beta 1, includes the classic v3.x ships - morphers, builder, carrier, jumpgate.
Almonaster server URLs change
12-24-00: For those that play Almonaster, there have been two URL changes. The changes, which are reflected in the server listing, include Falcon and Prometheus.
Stellar Crisis League started
12-09-00: There's a move afoot to bring back a form of clan wars. Check out the start of the effort known as International Stellar Crisis League (ISCL).
Grudge tourney closed, all slots filled!
11-09-00: In perhaps the fastest filling tournament in SC history, a grudge tournament was filled Wednesday night. You can check out brackets for the tournament, which starts Saturday.
Grudge tourney changed to Campo Di Miracoli
11-08-00: Due to popular demand, the Grudge Tournament will be changed from Ipanema v2.8 series, where builds are visible, to Campo Di Miracoli series, where builds are invisible.
32-empire grudge tourney started
11-02-00: Dustin Lee announced today that he is starting a 32-empire tournament at Lugdunum. The tournament will be using the Ipanema v2.8 series (builds visible?). The tournament starts the following Saturday after the final entry is received. Games will be one-on-one, best out of three games. The first 32 entries compete.
S.C. Room reaches 600,000 visitors
10-29-00: S.C. Room reached 600,000-plus visitors to the main page this evening. The site itself has been contacted over a million times since it's inception in early 1996 after the only server for the game was yanked. A dedicated following managed to get the game back online with even more servers within a couple months. Today, there are several variations of the game, and many, many more good players thanks to the knowledge shared by past champions.
Lug 3.2.9 moves to Baltimore
10-8-00: Andy at Lugdunum moved his server from Kent, U.K. to Baltimore today. Bookmark the new site. If you are having problems, try an alternate route (worked for me today).
The GAP, now with no annoying popups, also moved to a new address.
Other services, including Bridier Tables and History files, will be moving soon to the new server.
Lug 3.2.9 will be moving, soon!
10-4-00: Andy at Lugdunum posted today that the server would soon be moving. He says when the move occurs there will be a brief period when it will not be visible at the normal address. To cover that period, Andy says to use Lugdunum Reserver Server.
Then if you find the normal address stops working, so you can't get to your games, try that bookmark. You'll know the main server has moved there if it has changed colour from Lurid green to Lugdunum pink.
Until then, you are welcome to play on the Reserve Server, though the Game List contains blitzes only, as the current database there will be erased when the main server moves over, so there is no time for dailies. I would be interested to hear whether you find it faster or slower than this, says Andy
Lug v3.2.5 introduces changes
8-7-00: Andy at Lugdunum rolled out version 3.2.5 tonight, complete with two new features dealing with mirror maps.
One change, made in hopes of attracting more players, made borders between two empires to include crosslinks as well as the usual single link between each half.
The other feature deals with home world positioning, with the game attempting to keep enemies more than two systems apart, including multi-home world games.
Complete release notesare available.

Chelan site of small SC get-together
5-9-00: From left, Bird of Prey, LifeIncarnate and Avenger1 got together in Chelan May 3 for a short visit that included Thai food. Avenger1 (Frenchie) is thinking of moving to the region from Michigan. He's quite the wood-working artist. He should do well, now that he's past his operation, as Chelan is a big-buck tourist town.
SC Olympics rolls on
6-29-00: Stellar Crisis Olympics continues to roll on, making it the most successful, longest-living and professionally run tournament in S.C. history. Started January 17, most of the matches have wound down.
The UK, with two golds and a silver, leads with three total medals. The The Colonial Marauders (gold, silver), USA Southwest (gold, silver), and The Krauts (2 bronze) each have won two medals. With one medal each are the Dutch Dream Team (bronze), The Eh Team (silver), East Coast Bum Rush (silver), USA Northeast (bronze), and USA PAC 10 (bronze).
The Tacoma Narrows are in the final throws of ending. The Eh Team and The Krauts are each assured of another medal, with both fighting in the finals (gold, silver). USA PAC 10 and The UK fight for a bronze.
In Chernobyl, The Eh Team and Dutch Dream Team will play for a berth to the bronze round. No seeds into championship, yet.
The Great Plague is not close to finishing, though The Krauts have reached the finals, and The Colonial Marauders have reached the bronze round.
