BugLady, playing the empire Amazon at Tool, took a chance and tried to colonize her many systems hoping I would not send an insurmountable attack. The position of her home world allowed her to control one of my four original systems at 7,7, the one above my home world.
The small early advantage I had, while playing my empire Angel On My Shoulder, was being able to see her home world while she could NOT see mine. She could see both systems next to her. She opted to attack and protect the system above me, not allowing me a chance to either get it or explore past it. I luckily had enough agriculture to pull off the trick. I knew even if I got caught, I could always still finish the pop with the system furthest to the right. What I did NOT do was check my ag amount at the info menu. Had I done that, I would have seen I could have popped and made both systems builders. That also would have gotten me even more economy. BugLady did explore my home world. I built only enough full attacks to stop her sci. I then waited until she hit end turn, which she was doing very fast. I had already selected my build options. I overbuilt BR3 ships to the tune of a tech maintenance of .350 or so. I then took my biggest chance of the game by moving the fleet to my right. I knew it would not be a full strength fleet. I could also see her coming towards me with some ships, including a minesweep. She was going to go for an early, easy nuke. She saw my ships arrive below her home world. BugLady overbuilt, possibly figuring I had just built the fleet on that system, which due to the pop trick was a builder. She judged wrong, my fleet went north, at full strength! Worse, she was not at BR3 yet due to colonizing and building ships to protect her colonies. Let me just say, I do believe this is my first nuke against BugLady. She said afterwards that she should have explored my home world sooner. |
