The amazing fact of this game, is that I, playing as Winter, could have nuked V-T a little bit sooner, but got over eager.
I had successfully popped right under V-T, then used sats to offset his attacks. When I saw that he was going to pop, I sent a terraformer to his home world. What I failed to do, was to leave behind one sat. He sent his terraformer to my popped system below him. With a sat, I would have knocked it out. His home world, after the pop, was pop of 40. He was a sitting duck for my one terraformer. After knocking out my terraformer with his terraformer, which was moved to his home world to protect himself, we were both at economy of 5. However, because I had used sats against his attacks (hey, V-T, where did those six attacks go you built, then hit end turn then dismantled down to one?), I reached BR3 first. I offered to take a win that V-T, of course, ignored that. V-T, still thinking maybe I was green, hit end turn first after building but one terraformer on his homeworld, which told me his adjacent system was too low to build on, a very important fact. I could overbuild to about .500 on tech maintenance, move to his home world and, even if he noticed me overbuild, he could not counter by overbuilding a matching fleet one system away from his home world. All went perfectly to plan, with me catching him by surprise. I lost one ship landing on his home world, but the ships were at 1.800 in strength with five ships, plenty to get the job done. Now, I must add, V-T has nuked me in EVERY other encounter that I can ever remember, except a long, long time ago when I was lucky enough to ally with him. That was back in the LibertyNet days. Ancient history now. Thanks V-T for a very memorable game. Chirp, chirp. |
