This game was a no thinker, for various reasons. Voyager, aka Lynn, said he could not think during the game. He was playing two games at once. So I suspect he was not concentrating too much on me. Don't know why.
As it turned out, he was given a superior layout in terms of resources available. System 3,4 was nuked as he popped. I was trying to keep a hand (read that attack) in Voyager's face. I advanced a lone attack at him at 3,4. I then moved some more ships in to get the nuke, including a science ship.
After the nuke, I moved the science ship north to system 3,5 since I could see that 4,5 would be a good system for me. I wanted to be able to see what was adjacent to it. My plan was to colonize 4,5, use the pop trick then an engineer to open to 3,5 for a surprise attack.
But when I landed my science ship onto 3,5, I found Lynn had miscalculated his pop trick, leaving only 49 pop on the system. This may have had something to do with my taking out 3,4 on the prior turn.
I created a huge fleet while I had Voyager on the ropes. As I advanced, I nuked 3,4 again.
Though my nuke of Voyager was aided by his mistakes, I had to be in a position to take advantage of his mistakes. I find this nuke satisfying in that I did not error. Of note, this is my first known win over Voyager, who has nuked me a couple times now.
