In this game, I asked for an ally out due to lousy map. Latinoamerica's response was to send attacks and colonize the system (Borde) next to the Bird's home world.
I did get lucky in that my science ships - I built three to start the game - had found his home world. Since he was building so many ships (I suspected most being BR1, and not all at full strength), my only chance was to overbuild a BR2 fleet. I built a colony, four attacks and two minesweeps. Despite Latinoamerica's having found my home world - so he could see me building - I was able to get the fleet off. When I reached Borde above his home world, I left one attack behind to nuke the system. This would lower the amount of economy he would have to build ships as I advanced on his home world. As I moved to his home world, I colonized, which gave me a much needed boost in economy. When I nuked, I was able to move the attack, which was at full strength, onto his home world for added strength. This ploy, building a fleet early due to reaching BR2 before your foe, has been used successfully against me when a foe found my home world early. In a low tech game, it's a very viable way to nuke a player fast, providing you get to BR2 before they do. |
