Supreme (playing as Godzilla) and Sir Mauhaus teamed against Bird of Prey and We in an IRC Warz game at the Invite Server Nov. 20, 1998. Supreme and Sir Mauhaus met early and figured they had us split because they controlled the middle of the universe.
The game is variable on how many systems are given. In this game, each empire received three systems. I didn't know it, but I took one of Supreme's systems and pop tricked it. It took a while to terraform a side planet five units, but when it was done BoP ended up with economy of 6. We was at the back end of an even longer string of systems than the bird. He lost his connection to the Net for a few minutes, causing him to be booted from IRC and allowing Sir Mauhaus to take out We's builder at the front. While this was going on, Supreme was dancing from one system to another, never allowing me to take out his ships. Turns out he was using weak ships, possibly BR1 or BR2. I was using BR3 ships, which eventually did take all of his fleet out. Supreme lost his only system, and it was a sweet builder, too, when We and I counter attacked. The amazing thing was that Supreme said we only got it because We sacrificed his builder. What Supreme did not know, I suspect, is that my four ships in the attack were BR4. He would not have been able to wipe them out. With Supreme and We both at BR3 and Sir Mauhaus stuck way up north, this turned into a defensive struggle, with Supreme closing off the link to the system he lost to the south of him. Though the link was opened three times, the final time being the clincher, We and Sir Mauhaus managed to stave off being nuked twice. A cloaker was used in an attempt to nuke Bird's front system - didn't work, but what an effort. The Bird did colonize that system and, with ships in use, attempt to help We with a builder adjacent to it. But Supreme and Sir Mauhaus managed to nuke it and move to T-fuel and nuke it. I built a satellite and moved in a BR4 ship to defend. My mistake was thinking that would be enough. I should have built a BR1 minefield. With our losing the two front builders, Sir Mauhaus and Supreme were able to build attacks and keep us out on three thrusts at them at the system adjacent to them. Though Supreme beseeched us to ally out, and We was getting tired, too, I demanded we play for another half hour. In that time, we finally opened and kept open the link south of Supreme. An attack north led to We claiming the nuke. By this time, the Bird had BR6 and We was close to that. (Of note: the ship that's been alive the longest will get a nuke of an empire.) The Bird colonized Supreme's system, pop tricked with several BR4 ships in play then went to nuke Sir Mauhaus. Everyone hit end turn, something that seldom occurred in the game, and the final nuke was had several hours after the game started. While everyone knows about Supreme's offensive efforts, they should know he does pretty darn well on defense, too. And We was a great player to team with, always keeping me informed and at least once told me, correctly, where to send a fleet for maximum affect after I had it headed elsewhere.
