Hey, this Mayponian Empire creates multiple alliances. So that he won't get nuked, of course. He nuked me with a science ship at CyberNex. He had left the game for awhile, let his allies do all the work then returned in time to move a science ship with their attacks to my home world. He took the nuke.
Fortunately, his ploy does not always work, as in this game. Divine Shadow and I (using a different empire again) joined to nuke some lamers, then we took on the unholy trio of Mayponian, Egyptian Empire (home world is called Cairo) and Visigoth Empire. Visigoth would leave, giving up his systems to Mayponian.
Mayponian and Egyptian combined had superior economy and military when we first met them. With Visigoth playing, it was even more lopsided.
I guess the most important thing to learn here is you don't need to build a stargate on your home world after you reach BR7 or BR8. What do you need a gate for? You can build almost immediately on a colonized system. But be sure you have a full strength colony ship when colonizing. I failed to do this once and it took several turns at to create a builder.
Mayponian used a stargate to move ships a few turns from his home world. In the end, I reached BR10-12 before he did, simply because he was using a gate and I was not.
What got me, was that I knocked out his stargate once and he rebuilt it. This gave me a lot of confidence that I would prevail.
Also nice in this game was the cooperation with Divine Shadow in that I left him a couple systems to colonize. Otherwise I would have been dust, and nearly was a couple times. When you consider that we were both trying to break into the top 40 at CyberNex, I think it was exceptional that I did not steal Divine's nuke of Egyptian. I had a sweep and a few more BR12 ships right next to him but did not go onto his home world, waiting for Divine to show up.
