This felt more like a beginner game in that just about everyone bugged out. At least one empire returned later for a few turns then left. I got an easy nuke of madek, who had left. I put a few ships at Bone's Fishing and he left, too.
I was colonizing and terraforming like crazy, letting Cassius do all the fighting against me. I built a sat wall with a few attacks that I threw at him from time to time.
Not until I had a bunch of builders did I realize that a link could be made to or from my system at 24,26. I eventually got it to be a builder, but had Cassius known he could have built a fleet and been on my home world in two moves!!
I had over 100 ag left to help make IV, one of his nuked colonies, into a builder. I planned to colonize 25,25 too, though I didn't know it was below his homeworld until explored after he gave up.
Cassius constantly overbuilt but I always was too late to catch him doing it. Then late in the game I noticed the military dip and saw at the system menu that he had built way too many ships. I knew this because we were both very close in economy and I couldn't built six ships in a turn.
So I sent my BR4 attacks at him, knowing some of his attacks were still of the plain vanilla BR3 type. I had been replacing my sats with BR4 sats, so I knew he couldn't get in, either.
All in all, a very satisfying game. A three-bagger!!!
