I almost gave up on this game in which I ended up with three nukes!
I entered as the fourth of eight empires. Those around me got early nukes of empires that left the game or were weak empires. I had to use a stargate early to get colony and terraformers out quickly. This cuts into your tech development. By mid-game I had but BR4 while my foes had BR5 and superior or equal economy.
The major difference was that I had builders near my front and they did not.
I lost Criss Cross, with but an update until it was a builder, by not being able to get all my turns in within three minutes. That's a major problem with Cybernex, it's difficult to make a good, quick connection. So Cupid was able to nuke the system with a BR5 science ship while I was relegated to BR4 ships at the time.
But since I had a builder right next door, I dismantled the stargate so that I might catch up with my foes. Jun-Jun was coming at me from the south, Surd and Cupid from the north. It certainly appeared early on that Surd and Cupid were working together in a no-alliance game. I've had this happen before with empires called mike and mates. Frostopia was in that game, so he can testify on how they would not let their fleets nuke each other while giving you the 1-2 blast. Very unsporting and certainly against the definition of the game.
In the end, Cupid nuked Surd. Though Cupid had way more systems to colonize, I was able to keeping him going in circles long enough to start nuking a few of his systems. I also suspect he had a stargate, which in the end caused him to fall behind me in tech development. I'm pretty sure I got to BR7 and BR8 before he did.
In the end, Cupid and Jun-Jun each surrendered. At Cybernex, in order for you to claim a nuke on such empires, you have to colonize their home world. Otherwise, if you surrender and get past 15 updates, you will not be credited with having been nuked.
In fact, I thought I might surrender early on. That's why the links to my home world and back systems have been closed. I figured they would not be able to find me within the allotted turns.
All in all, another very satisfying game. A three-bagger!!! But it took like three-plus hours to accomplish.
