Some Stellar Crisis players use IRC, Internet Relay Chat, to set up games, compare notes, learn more about the game and about other empires, and to meet other like-minded players. A special channel, #stellar_crisis, is located at shadowworld.net. The ShadowWorld Network, which started in September, 1999, is composed of IRC servers across the United States and in Europe on high-speed Internet connections. Learn more at ShadowWorld.net.
Specific servers/channels hosting ShadowWorld include:
- Galaxy.IL.US.ShadowWorld.NET (BigB administrator)
- Eclipse.CT.US.ShadowWorld.NET
- Pluto.OR.US.ShadowWorld.NET
- Nezzwerk.WA.UK.ShadowWorld.Net
- Trinity.CA.US.ShadowWorld.NET
 To use any of the channels, you first need to download IRC software (shareware, with a small registration fee). I paid $15 for ircle to use on my Mac. See below for various software download areas and further description as of Jan. 25, 2003 (Source: http://www.shadowworld.net/software.htm.
Next, log onto a server by typing /server shaddowworld.net. With ircle (for Macs), I added the channel shadowworld.net.
Once connected, type: /join #stellar_crisis
That's it.
If you want to learn more about logging onto ShadowWorld or other chat areas, check out http://www.shadowworld.net/connect.htm. Of note, the java on the page makes it so my cursor is invisible on my Mac. But there's lots of valuable information there.
As of Jan. 25, 2003, BigB says pirch is defunct and mirc is up to 6.03 or so. He also said you can use trillian to connect to irc.
