Below is a typical login screen you will get when clicking on one of the v2.8.x servers. Servers are listed on the top, left side of many of the Stellar Crisis Room pages, including the main menu, FAQ and even the How To Page.
You need to create an empire name and a password. Write them down. These servers don't have the ability to email you with your password for an empire. If you forget your password, you won't be able to use that empire.
I like to choose old movie names. I use one of those review books with movies on video. I can always modify a movie name to something more appropriate. I especially like names that fill the entire login name entry, like Angel On My Shoulder.
As for passwords, don't choose something easy to guess. And adding something non-alphabetical to the password makes it nearly impossible to guess. Examples might be qwe999.
I am going to skip past what would occur if you actually attempted to login with a new empire. That's because you will be sent to a menu that requires over 100 icons to load. I'd rather get right to playing the game. Don't worry, after you fill out a short form you can reach the game menu by clicking on an icon you want for your empire.
